An ideal alternative to elephant ivory, tagua nuts are also known as "vegetable ivory." Their use promotes industry in rain forest countries and prevents valuable rain forest resources from being destroyed. Dyes on the tagua nuts penetrate just the first layer. Bead colours include red, green, pink, turquoise blue and orange. As beads are a natural material, size, color and shape may vary. Testing for colorfastness is recommended.
